Pool & Spa Filter Repair

Cartridge, DE, and sand filters serviced or rebuilt — and checked specifically for the calcium scale that Orange County's hard water leaves behind on media and tank hardware.

Rising pressure and cloudy return water are the two symptoms that bring us out most often, and on OC pools the cause is frequently hard water rather than dirt alone — calcium scale builds up on cartridge pleats, DE grids, and sand media in a way that a simple hose-off doesn't touch. We service pool-sized filters and the smaller spa filters that run a separate, faster cycle, since both fail differently.

What actually fails

By filter type.

1. Cartridge filters

Pleats & end caps

Collapsed or scale-caked pleats restrict flow long before they look obviously dirty. We clean, acid-wash, or replace depending on how much surface area is actually still usable.

2. DE filters

Grids & manifolds

Torn grids let DE powder bypass into the pool, and a cracked manifold does the same from a different point of failure. Both get pressure-tested before we call it fixed.

3. Sand filters

Laterals & channeling

Channeling through old or calcium-bound sand lets water bypass the media entirely — a full media change, not a backwash, is usually what actually fixes it.

4. Spa filters

Smaller media, faster cycle

Spa filters run a much smaller volume through a much faster turnover, so scale and debris accumulate proportionally faster — they need shorter service intervals than the main pool filter, not the same one.

Hard water & scale

Why OC filters scale faster than you'd expect.

Much of Orange County's tap and fill water runs on the harder end of the scale, and calcium deposits build up fastest exactly where flow is already restricted — inside cartridge pleats, on DE grid fabric, and in sand bed channels. A filter that's cleaned on schedule but never acid-washed will still lose capacity over a season or two purely from mineral buildup, which is why we check for scale as a separate issue from ordinary dirt and debris.

Common questions

Filter repair FAQ.

How do I know if my filter needs repair versus just cleaning?

If pressure climbs back up quickly after a clean or backwash, that's usually scale or media damage rather than ordinary dirt — cleaning alone won't fix it twice.

Do you service spa filters separately from pool filters?

Yes. Spa filters run a different volume and cycle than the main pool filter and need their own service interval, not a shared one.

How often should filters be acid-washed in OC?

Roughly once or twice a season depending on water hardness at your specific address and bather load — we'll tell you what your filter's actual condition calls for rather than a blanket schedule.
